What are PIR  sensors?  Passive Infrared Radar (PIR) sensors are electronic devices which use infrared radiation emitted by objects within their field of vision to detect infrared radiation emitted by objects and people within. PIR sensors can be used for motion detection by sensing changes in heat patterns due to movement; specifically when there are hot objects or people present. PIR sensors consist of two components, a pyroelectric sensor that generates an electric signal when exposed to infrared radiation, and a processing circuit which interprets and responds accordingly. A typical PIR sensor consists of multiple segments equipped with lenses and sensing elements which monitor changes in infrared radiation when an object moves across their field of vision, signalling motion to their processing circuits and trigger a response accordingly.
